Saturday Special Event

Grand Finale with Douglas Gresham

Meet Douglas Gresham, stepson of C.S. Lewis, at GHC in Cincinnati, Ohio and Fort Worth, Texas! (A Meet-N-Greet for autographs and/or pictures will follow Douglas Gresham’s very special presentation on Saturday in both Cincinnati and Fort Worth.)

Douglas Gresham was born in New York City, the son of writers William Lindsay Gresham and Joy Davidman. William Gresham was the author of Nightmare Alley, the classic of American noir literature, while Joy Davidman was best known for her book Smoke on the Mountain, about the Ten Commandments. The couple were divorced in 1954, and Joy moved to England with her two sons.[2]

Gresham’s mother had become friends with C. S. Lewis through correspondence, and the friendship blossomed, eventually leading to marriage in 1956. Gresham’s mother died of cancer in 1960, and Lewis continued to raise Douglas and his elder brother David. (Lewis had adopted the boys when he married, and The Horse and His Boy is dedicated to them both).

Gresham hosted Focus on the Family‘s radio adaptations of his stepfather’s most famous works, and his interest in media versions thereof was later shown again when he was named co-producer for the series of theatrical films adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia; he also made a cameo in the first installment as a radio newscaster, the second as a “Telmarine crier” and the third as a slaver.

We are honored to have Mr. Gresham as the grand finale speaker for the Texas and MidWest Homeschool Conventions.

Friday Night Comedy with Jonnie W.!

Jonnie W. annihilates audiences. I’m a friend and a huge fan.

—Tim Hawkins

Friday Night Family Comedy Night at our regional GHC homeschooling conventions is a big hit, and a very welcome opportunity to sit down, relax and laugh together with other homeschool moms and / or homeschooling families.

However, we didn’t want to schedule just “any” comedian for our GHC homeschool convention attendees. We were looking for someone that was really crazy-funny… and we found just the person!

Jonnie blends musical chops, mad vocals, and off-beat standup for a hilariously unique comedy experience. Entering the comedy scene with nothing more than a guitar and his razor-sharp wit, he has gone on to entertain multi-generational audiences nationwide.

When not performing at solo events, Jonnie joins fellow funny man Tim Hawkins on his “Rockshow Comedy Tour”, delivering the funny at sold out shows coast to coast.

Homeschool Moms and Dads… Homeschooled teens… Homeschooling families… this year’s “Friday Night Family Comedy Night” with Jonnie W is going to be an incredible time of laughter and fun. You simply do NOT want to miss it!

Jonnie performed at our Volunteer Appreciation Night,
and he was relevant and hilarious.  So much fun!

Slugs & Bugs LIVE is an unforgettable concert for families. (And dads get silly on stage, and sometimes there’s a parade….)

SLUGS & BUGS – Live! (In concert)

Faith. Family. Funny.

(Randall Goodgame)

As parents, there is nothing more important that the training of our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, Jesus Christ. One of the most significant ways we can do this is by helping them memorize scripture… to “hide it in their heart.” And, Slugs & Bugs is such an outstanding way to accomplish this… we count it a great honor to be able to introduce Slugs & Bugs to the homeschooling moms, dads and families that attend our regional GHC homeschool conventions.

Slugs & Bugs LIVE is an unforgettable concert for families. Specifically, it is a joyful, gospel-filled, life-celebrating, interactive musical experience featuring animated videos, energetic vocals, and tasty piano, guitar and mandolin solos! (And dads get silly on stage, and sometimes there’s a parade….)

Slugs & Bugs rejects the compartmentalization of life into sacred and secular and declares with great gusto that Christ is the head of all things. He is the head of kite-flying and river-floating, ice-fishing and sky-diving, nap-taking, bike-riding, belly-laughing and taking out the trash.

Our small hope is that the joyful creativity of Slugs & Bugs music will delight your whole family.

Our grand hope is that Slugs & Bugs kids would find it natural to remember Jesus in their homework, in their friendships, and one day, in the parenting of our grandchildren.

In fact, here’s a note from Laura G. who found Slugs & Bugs music for the first time at the Midwest Homeschooling Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio:

“I have a 3 kids, ages 12, 10 and 5. The only time we really listen to music in CD version is when we are in the car. At first my husband and the tweens were not so sure and kind of groaned when I’d put “children’s” CDs in, but before you know it they were all singing along and admitting they loved the music. (How could you NOT?! 😊 )  My husband specializes in doing the monster and Count Dracula voices in the 10 Commandments.

Fast forward to this week. We drove down to southwest Florida (2 eight-hour days one way) and are now on our way back.  We have had difficulty finding Christian radio, so these Slugs and Bugs CDs have been played nearly continuously!! My 5 year old son is singing along with every song and has declared he LOVES Slugs and Bugs!  It warms my heart to hear him memorizing God’s Word, and honestly, we are too right along with him. I have your music ringing through my head all the time now.”

Slugs & Bugs is the Pixar of kids music.

“Sing the Bible” is perfect for our family because it is all about God’s Word, but it is also hilarious! This is a favorite road trip CD for our family!

About Andrew Peterson

About Andrew Peterson

The musical talent and lyrical depth and integrity that you’ll experience in the music of Andrew Peterson is refreshing and renewing – and, of late, is leading to his becoming a household name among many homeschooling families.

For more than twenty years now, Andrew Peterson (a homeschooling dad) has been about the business of quietly changing lives in four-minute increments. In the city of Nashville—where music is an industry in the same way that fast food, generic greeting cards, and bumper stickers are industries—Peterson has forged his own path, refusing the artistic compromises that so often come with chasing album sales and radio singles and instead has created a long line of songs that ache with sorrow, joy, and integrity, and that are, at the end of the day, part of a real, ongoing, human conversation.

We received so many rave reviews from our homeschool convention attendees when we had Andrew Peterson in-concert 2 years ago at our GHC home schooling conventions! And, we’re truly honored that he will be performing at all seven of our 2019 regional homeschooling conventions!

Andrew is also the award-winning author of The Wingfeather Saga, a four-book fantasy adventure series for young people, described as The Princess Bride meets The Lord of the Rings. The books are currently being produced as an animated film, which is terribly, wonderfully, indubitably exciting

Homeschool Convention Schedule for Andrew Peterson

Andrew Peterson will be performing in concert on Thursday evenings at all seven (7) of the 2019 GHC homeschooling conventions! And then, Andrew will also be leading a very special workshop session on Friday morning at all seven (7) GHC regional homeschool conventions as well.

Jean Thomason is the live embodiment of the joyful children’s character, “Miss PattyCake.” The music and character of Miss PattyCake allow Jean to plant biblical truths, broken into musical toddler-size pieces, into little lives, while helping parents lay a spiritual foundation. As Miss PattyCake, Jean teaches Bible stories, praise, and early learning concepts through song. In her new book “Sharing God’s Big Love with Little Lives”, she speaks from this experience to parents and caregivers on how to better communicate with little ones about knowing, loving, and praising God. “This book will take you on a tour of parenting and teaching young children God, Jesus and the Bible,” says Jean. “It will help you in the great work of spiritual formation, which is the JOY of laying a biblical, spiritual foundation on which salvation and a life of faith can be built.”
