Attachment is a buzz word these days in the mental health world. But what does it have to do with homeschooling? Our attachment is formed when we are very young - often before we can even talk. The way our emotional needs are seen, acknowledged, and tended to (or not) literally programs the way we do relationships. As we are interacting with the members of our family, we react based on the way we were reacted TO as a child. Simply understanding what formed our relational framework can help us to understand ourselves - and our children. By paying attention to ourselves, we pay better attention to our children. And we can empower them to understand themselves. This creates a healthy emotional environment in which kids and parents both can thrive.
