Cicero said that to be ignorant of history is to be forever a child. Santayana said those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Henry Ford said history is more or less bunk. We say that history makes us wise with stories and examples both to avoid but also imitate and as such should be at the core of a good education. In this seminar, we will discuss the ways in which history inspires and admonishes, and reveals God’s providence. We will also survey the best ways to teach history in grades K-12, noting some of the best books, stories, and textbooks we can use in our homeschooling curriculum.
