The celebrated 19th century Russian novelist, Fyodor Dostoevsky, put in the mouth of one of his most enigmatic characters these odd words: “Beauty will save the world.” If he was right, it would have to begin with the child. But is he?
In this [two-session] breakout, Andrew Kern argues that it is the parents (perhaps especially the mothers) ability to see the beauty in their children – and their willingness to labor to see it realized – that offers us hope for our age. More than that, when we let beauty guide us our teaching becomes magical, powerful, and, yes, more practically effective.
