About This Workshop

Shinichi Suzuki said, "If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart." I love this quote, but sometimes the grind of every day practice can be difficult. I started studying violin when I was four years old at the University of Cincinnati Prep Department....then I became a music teacher myself.....and THEN I had my own kids and had to practice with them every day. My perspective on parenting kids through music lessons comes from all three of these stages of my life. I have seen it done well and not-so-well. I've had the practice sessions with my kids where all we seemed to accomplish was.... pretty much nothing. I have gathered tools and insight from my role of being a student, a teacher and a parent. I believe music lessons should be fun - at least part of the time. It is helpful to identify what your parenting personality is and what your goals are. And then to gather a basket of tools and understandings that can help you survive music lessons for the long haul.
