Professor Larry is a native-born Arizonian, who, after graduating from Arizona State University with a BA in Political Science, went on the road as a rock-and-roll drummer performing with several different bands and , opening for 60s/70s iconic acts including Steppenwolf. He abruptly decided he wanted to be a history professor, and received an MA from ASU in history, then a Ph.D. from University of California, Santa Barbara. He began his teaching career at the University of Dayton in 1985 where he stayed until retiring.

In 2009 Professor Larry produced the documentary film, “Rockin' the Wall,” about rock music’s part in bringing down the Iron Curtain. It appeared on PBS and is still the foremost documentary on the subject of rock-and-roll’s influence in world events.

His most recent book, Reagan: The American President came out May 1, 2019.
