We have the honor of welcoming some of the most amazing speakers to our conventions. They each bring unique expertise in their given fields and share facts, tips, ideas, and strategies that will help you be the most successful homeschooling parents possible.

Covering a wide variety of topics, these speakers help equip you in a balanced way so that you can move forward with more confidence than ever before.

Special Events

The following special events offer a time of fun and fellowship that is also beneficial to your homeschooling adventure. You’ll come away refreshed and more knowledgeable, so be sure to take a look at this list to help plan your visit.

The Real Mom Tour

Being a homeschool parent can be hard, even if you’ve been doing it for years! So, if you’re new to the lifestyle, don’t think it uncommon to find yourself overwhelmed with the home education routine, especially during this unprecedented time of quarantines, lockdowns, and distance schooling masquerading as ‘normal’. The truth is, we can all become overwhelmed and we’re here to support one another through it!

The ladies who make up The Real Mom Tour Panel can tell you from experience that you’re actually better at this than you think. Join The Real Mom Tour ladies for an evening of real talk and real engagement with lots of other homeschooling moms. All topics will be covered. Questions will be asked. Plus enjoy snacks, games (nothing weird), and some surprises, too! Sign up now if only for the encouragement you need to press on.

Thanks to the generous financial support of our sponsor, Medi-Share, we are able to offer a ticket price of only $3 per person when you purchase online, or $5 per person at the door.

Slugs & Bugs LIVE with Randall Goodgame

It’s easy to help children get excited about Jesus, especially with the help of a fun-filled event like Slugs & Bugs! This concert is created for whole families, offering an interactive musical experience that includes energetic vocals, animated videos, and the opportunity to learn Scripture through song.

Join Randal Goodgame and his crew for an exciting adventure you won’t soon forget. Thanks to the generous financial support of Medi-Share and World News Group, tickets for this very special event are $3 per person for general seating and $5 per person for priority seating.

Andrew Stanley

Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that the joy of the LORD is your strength, and Atlanta-based stand-up comedian Andrew Stanley helps strengthen you with his dry sense of humor. He was the grand prize winner of The 2017 Search for the South’s Funniest Accountant, and a selected participant in the 2018 and 2019 Laughing Skull Comedy Festivals, and we’re honored to have him with us this year at Great Homeschool Conventions.

Missionary Gracia Burnham

Gracia Burnham and her husband, Martin, were homeschooling missionaries when taken captive by the Abu Sayyaf Group during their wedding anniversary celebration in 2001. After more than a year of captivity, Gracia made it home, but Martin did not.

Since then, Gracia has authored two books, including In the Presence of My Enemies, recounting her captivity and so much more. Find out all the details for yourself by marking this very special event so that you don’t miss the opportunity.

Workshops

You might not find every single workshop offered at this year’s Great Homeschool Convention to be a perfect fit for you, but it’s well worth taking a look at everything we offer, just in case. For example, there may be workshops that focus on specifics that you don’t yet have to deal with, like high school transcripts, driver’s licensing, job training, and more. However, if it’s a topic you might want to know more about in the future, consider attending and taking detailed notes that you’ll be able to file away and use when the time comes.

To see a complete list of the workshops available to you at this year’s South Carolina convention, CLICK HERE. Please note that the current schedule is subject to change until the program guide goes to print approximately one month prior to the convention. In the meantime, take a look at a few of these featured workshops to give you an idea of what you can expect.

  • How to Negotiate Sibling Conflict Like an FBI pro – Dr. Melanie Wilson

And many, many more!

Special Tracks

We offer a wide variety of topics to equip and encourage you on your homeschooling journey. Workshops that focus on a specific homeschooling topic are what we refer to as our Special Tracks.

Homeschooling 101 & Homeschool Help Desk: Homeschooling 101: This is your starting place if you are new to homeschooling or considering homeschooling. Janice Campbell and Ann Karako will address the foundational aspects of homeschooling. Janice addresses all ages K – 12. Ann focuses on those tough high school years.

Homeschool Help Desk sessions are presented by Sarah Mackenzie, Pam Barnhill, and Colleen Kessler in separate sessions that address some of the questions homeschooling parents have. They can all be found in the exhibit hall when they are not speaking. Feel free to visit them. They are ready and very capable of directing you on your journey. They are there to help homeschooling families in all seasons from new homeschoolers to those homeschooling for years.

Classical Homeschooling Track: The philosophy of education that is known as “classical” is popular among homeschooling families. It includes teaching your children logical thinking, liberal arts, music appreciation, and the love of learning through reading and studying the great classics. Who better to present these sessions than Andrew Pudewa, Dr. Christopher Perrin, Andrew Kern, Professor Carol, and Martin Cothran? We are pleased to have them all as speakers and exhibitors.

Charlotte Mason Track: Charlotte Mason was a pioneer in teaching the philosophy of how a person learns as a whole person, not just within one’s mind. This track will introduce you to a whole new way of teaching so that children can experience a well-rounded, hands-on education. There will also be in-depth sessions offered for those who are already using the Charlotte Mason method.

Parenting Track: Parents want to be the best parent possible for their children. However, parenting isn’t easy. That is where our parenting track sessions can assist you in creative ways to solve your most difficult issues. Daniel Huerta and along with Dr. Melanie Wilson, Nicholeen Peck, Brett Kunkle and John Fort are experts in their field. They would love to have you attend their workshops and are more than willing to talk with you at length in the exhibit hall. Be sure to attend for encouragement and some great advice.

Real Faith for the Real World Teen Track: The teen years are tough especially with all that is available in this world. Peer pressure is intense. The Real Faith for the Real World teen track is guided by Massey Campos, Brett Kunkle, and others who address major issues affecting our teens today. They offer reasons why we believe as we do and give guidance and a true help for teens to know how to defend their faith.

Special Needs & Gifted Children: Sometimes children struggle with learning. Our special needs speakers address many issues such as how to teach children with reading disabilities, ADHD, and autism. If you aren’t trained in the special needs field, it can be difficult to know how to teach special needs children at home. Our special need speakers will give you some great tips and tactics to assist you in helping your child reach their full potential.

Literature-Rich Track: Children love stories! Literature-Rich track sessions will teach parents how to help their children develop a love of learning through reading great books.

College Track: College Prep Genius’ Jean Burk loves to help parents through the whole process of getting your child ready for college. She even shares some great tips on how best to “learn” to take those college entry exams. Her own children attended college for free! She can teach you how to look for those scholarship opportunities.

Professor Carol Reynolds and Dr. Jay Wile will also address college topics based on their experience as college professors. They know what your child needs and how to prepare them.

Exhibitors

One of the highlights of attending a Great Homeschool Convention in person is the ability to browse the vast Exhibition Center. Not only will you be able to get your hands on these excellent curriculum pieces and resources in person, but you’ll be able to thumb through them to see if it’s something that truly meets your style, methods, and preferences. It’s far less time-consuming and much more affordable than ordering these same pieces online and waiting for their arrival, only to find that they are useless to you and your child. Plus, you’ll get convention-only pricing and special discounts you wouldn’t otherwise have access to.

You can also speak to real people while browsing, which changes your whole curriculum shopping experience. Talk with the actual creators of the material, or spend time chatting with other homeschoolers who have used the materials you’re considering for your own homeschool. This real-life perspective can make a world of difference and allow you to fine-tune these critical aspects of your experience.
