Ohio: 2020 Great Homeschool Convention

December 4, 2019Stacey Lynn

Get ready Ohio! The 2020 Great Homeschool Convention is coming to Duke Energy Convention Center on April 16 - 18, 2020! It’s going to be an energizing time of fun, information, and fellowship that you really won’t want to miss, especially if this is your first time attending a homeschool convention. The experience will only leave you wondering why you didn’t attend one sooner and will have you making plans to attend the next one.

Here’s what you can expect when you come to a Great Homeschool Convention. There will be hundreds of workshops for you to attend on an extensive variety of very important topics for homeschoolers. There will also be dozens of special speakers who have vital information that is well worth your time. You can even take advantage of the large exhibit hall where you’ll find massive amounts of curriculum and resources, with vendors on-site. Here, you can browse and examine a vast number of resources, with the creators of those curricula - as well as those who have used it themselves - right there, live and in person. If you have questions, these are the best people to ask, as you’ll always get an answer!

Even if you’re brand new to homeschooling and this is your very first year, this convention will definitely change things for you. Our most important tips include wearing comfy shoes and bring something (notebooks, electronic device, audio recorder, etc.) in which to keep all your notes. We look very forward to your arrival at Ohio’s 2020 Great Homeschool Convention. As you anticipate the convention, though, here is a little more of what you can expect over this action-packed weekend.

Special Events

Here are some events and a bit of information that may help you better to plan your entire weekend.

Phil Robertson: Live

Saturday night: 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M.

Tickets can be added when you register for the Great Homeschool Convention weekend or can be purchased separately if you prefer.

Come hear Phil, originally from Vivian, Louisiana, speak about growing up in a rural home on little money, learning how to hunt, and playing college football alongside Terry Bradshaw. He and his wife, Kay, now live in Louisiana, along with their four sons, Alan, Jase, Willie, and Jeptha, making their living from a life of hunting and fishing.

This is an evening you won’t want to miss. If you have a ticket for this event, in addition to getting to hear Phil speak, you’ll also get to take part in a Meet and Greet as well. Lines will be separated by priority and general tickets, with priority tickets lining up first.

Gracia Burnham: In the Presence of My Enemies

Saturday: 2:30 P.M. - 3:30 P.M.

Having grown up with a knowledge of and love for the Lord, Gracia learned to sing beloved hymns long before she could read the words. She attended Calvary Bible College where she achieved a bachelor’s in Christian education and cultivated a beautiful friendship with a fellow student named Martin. Be sure to make plans to hear her tell you the rest of her gripping story by attending this very special event.

The Real Mom Tour: You’re Better at This Than You Think

Thursday: 8:00 P.M. - 9:30 P.M.

Tickets: $3 in advance, thanks to generous financial support from Medi-Share, $5 at the door.

There are going to be times, thanks to the possibility of sometimes becoming overwhelmed, that homeschooling can be discouraging. The good news is, you’re not alone! Every homeschooling mother has a few days out of each year that they feel like they’re failing, or at the very least, not cut out for such a responsibility. At this event, you’ll get real encouragement for the real struggles that come with real homeschooling. Be sure not to miss the event, packed with encouragement, games, snacks, and plenty of other surprises.

Slugs & Bugs LIVE in Concert: Faith. Family. Funny. (Randall Goodgame)

Friday: 5:30 P.M. - 6:30 P.M.

Tickets: $3 for general seating, $5 for priority seating, thanks to the generous financial support from Medi-Share and World News Group.

Doors open at 5 P.M. for priority ticket holders, 5:15 P.M. for general ticket holders.

Parents know it’s important to train our children with the knowledge of Jesus and Slugs & Bugs is a great way to help do that. It’s an unforgettable, Gospel-filled concert that features interactive segments, videos, music, and silly moments your kids will love. Come take part in this amazing celebration that helps put Jesus right in the middle of everyday life, and not just in the church house on Sunday morning!

Andrew Stanley

Friday: 8:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.

The Bible tells us that laughter is like a medicine: “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22). You can get your own dose of this powerful medicine by attending this event, featuring Atlanta, Georgia native, Andrew Stanley. A homeschool survivor himself, you’ll hear him talk about that experience, along with many others, in his very own comedic style. Having taken the grand prize as the South’s Funniest Accountant in 2017, we went on in 2018 and 2019 to participate in the Laughing Skull Comedy Festival. Make sure to plan to set time aside to attend this event!

Andrew Stanley and Jonnie W.

Friday: 8:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.

Joining Andrew for this Friday night family comedy night is Jonnie W. He’s not afraid to mix his excellent vocals, musical ability, and comedic stylings for a night of multigenerational funny business. When he isn’t performing solo, you can find Jonnie with comedian, Tim Hawkins, on the “Rockshow Comedy Tour”, which runs coast to coast.

Holocaust Survivor, Dr. Inge Auerbacher: I am a Star

Saturday: 1:00 P.M. - 2:00 P.M.

Tickets: FREE, thanks to special support from Medi-Share

Make sure you reserve a spot for this event and hear from someone who survived the Holocaust. With information that is truly relevant to everyone, Dr. Auerbacher will relate her story during her hour-long event at the Ohio Great Homeschool Convention

Workshops

Workshops are a special part of any Great Homeschool Convention, and Ohio is no different. With hundreds to choose from, you can attend one or more that offers pertinent information for your own homeschooling situation. Be sure to take notes for safekeeping, as the sheer amount of information you’ll receive may, at times, be lost in the shuffle. You might also attend workshops to gain knowledge about things you may still have to deal with, such as writing a high school transcript, but you will at some point.
